Detective Salvino raced down the 1 North with his sirens blaring. He thought about the house in Boulder Creek. He heard the twisting sound of all the ropes hanging from the ceiling and all the naked bodies in multiple rows, a grid and pattern of the lost souls that just needed some guidance. The girl who hung there with her bulging eyes and veins ready to pop out of her neck and jaw. He saw her, hanging there with her head slumped down and her shoulders pulsating from her giggles. She laughed at him. Police cars followed right behind Salvino. He got to the turn and gunned it around the corner. The road was bumpy and uneven. Tall redwood trees towered over and past through his window as red brown blurs of brushstrokes. He drove up and slammed on his breaks, bringing the car to an angle to give him cover from whatever bullshit was about to arise. He opened the car door and kept it open. Detective Salvino stepped out of the car but stayed facing toward Freedom House and it’s commune garden. A healthy dosage of vegetables sprinkled the front of the house. Tomato plants, corn, and carrots stood between the police cars and the entrance to Freedom House. Detective Salvino got onto his right knee and kept his left foot up at a ninety degree angle. He stayed behind the car door and took his gun out. He pointed his gun out the window frame of the car door toward the house. The police cars rolled up behind him and positioned themselves in the same strategic line up. Inside of Freedom House, the members were still sitting and waiting for The Darius. Penelope and Skye sat in the center with everyone else sitting around them. When they heard the police sirens, some of them gasped and turned their heads to the front door. “It’s okay. The Darkness is here. The Darius knew it and he warned us. We must free ourselves from it. We cannot surrender to The Outside. We’ve worked too hard for our freedom,” Penelope said. Someone asked, “What should we do? The Darius isn’t back yet.” “We will do what we know The Darius wants. We must reach The Light,” Skye said. Sky stood up and walked to the hallway into the Yoga Room. She returned with two large canisters of gas. “We finally get to complete our journey,” Skye said. She looked around at all the Freedom House members sitting in the living room. The twinkle and gloss over their eyes confirmed that they were ready to reach The Light. They had been waiting for this and working for it for a long time. “Just sit and wait,” Skye said. She started in the living room, pouring the gasoline along the perimeter of the walls. Then she moved into the kitchen. She held the gas can with two hands and spilled the gas onto the kitchen floor tiles. “We should hold hands,” Penelope said with excitement to all the members sitting on the living room floor. Everyone grabbed the hand of the person to their right and to their left. “Let’s meditate. Close your eyes and inhale deeply into your stomach. Now exhale slowly. Continue to focus on your breathe. Each breath is getting us closer to freedom, to enlightenment,” Penelope spoke slow and steady with a calm content. Skye walked out of the kitchen, through the living room, and into the hallway. She put down the empty gas can and picked up a full one. She splashed the hallway walls and blessed each room with the propane liquid. She got to the end of the hallway and stopped. She stared at the red door that stared back at her. She whispered, “We’ll see you on the other side The Darius,” then she threw gas onto the red door.
