1. Haters Back Off (comedy)
This YouTuber created her own show! Created by Colleen Ballinger and her brother Chris Ballinger, Haters Back Off stars Colleen as her YouTube talentless, quirky character Miranda Sings. Colleen’s talent to turn herself into a geeky loser is not only impressive but hilarious as well.

2. Master of None (comedy/drama)
If you are a fan of Parks and Rec, I hope you are, then you will love this modern comedy-drama starring Aziz Ansari. Created by Ansari and Alan Yang, Ansari stars in the lead role as a 30 year-old actor trying to make something of himself in New York. Ansari doesn’t fail to deliver on his quick and clever comebacks.
3. Black Mirror (science fiction)
Charles Brooker’s British sci-fi anthology series is extremely nostalgic of Rod Serling’s The Twilight Zone. Each episode takes on a narrative of its own where futuristic technologies and human emotion collide. If you’re in a dark mood and ready to have your mind blown, this is the show for you.
4. Shameless (comedy/drama)
Be prepared for nudity, drugs, violence, and comedy. Based on a British series, this show depicts a dysfunctional family of an alcoholic single father of six children. Every episode never ceases to shock you, frustrate you, and make you laugh. Every character archetype is represented in this show and if you thought you were dealt a bad hand in your life, you must check out this series.
5. Revolution (action/post-apocalyptic)
This post-apocalyptic show is set in the year 2027 during a blackout on Earth, causing all electricity to be permanently disabled. This is a great post-apocalyptic show and succeeds in the genre without your normal dose of zombies. Don’t get me wrong, I am a huge zombie fanatic, but the writers of this show definitely thought outside the box and strived for originality.
6. Bates Motel (horror)
Are you a fan of classic horror films? This series is a prequel to Alfred Hitchcock’s 1960 film Psycho. Based in Oregon, the show depicts the lives of Norma and Norman Bates before the events portrayed in the film. Each episode reveals the dangers of Norman’s mental illness while his mother attempts to protect her son from his disturbing and dark schizophrenia.
Have you watched any of these shows? What are some of the hidden gems you have found on Netflix?
My Mantra: Strive to be the best me and improve a little every day. Be compassionate, especially to those who may not practice it. Continue to learn and love. Take a moment multiple times each day to breathe. Forgive myself and forgive others. Read books. Live what I preach. Accept others. And above all, laugh every single day. (P.S. I have an infatuation for horror and disturbing and dark true stories.)
